Records and Setup

Finance setup: tax, WHT, expenses, and currencies

Maintain tax and withholding codes, expense categories, currencies, and retained-earnings settings.

Overview

Maintain tax and withholding codes, expense categories, currencies, and retained-earnings settings.

Before you begin

Use reference values approved by finance. Tax codes and parent types need appropriate accounts; currency and expense selectors depend on this setup.

Main task

  1. Open Tax Types, Tax Codes, WHT Types, WHT Codes, Expense Categories, Currencies, or Retained Earnings under Setup.
  2. Search before adding or editing a reference record.
  3. Review code/rate fields and parent-type account mappings. For sales WHT, verify the sales WHT account.
  4. Review expense classifications and subsidiary applicability, currency reference fields, and retained-earnings accounts where relevant.
  5. Save and verify selection in a transaction or close setting. Use the supported CSV download to review lists.

Check the result

Chosen codes provide rates and posting mappings. Shared identities still require valid applicability and account configuration in the active subsidiary.

If something goes wrong

Nonzero VAT/WHT without a valid code or account mapping can block approval. Correct setup or the line’s code rather than inventing a balancing tax line.
