Overview
Build assemblies using effective-dated BOMs, component issues, completions, and variance close.
Before you begin
Finance configures subsidiary WIP and variance accounts. Warehouse operations need assembly/component assignments, locations, inventory detail, and an effective BOM revision. Configuration and operating actions have separate role checks.
Main task
- Open Manufacturing and review required account settings with finance.
- Create an effective-dated BOM revision for the assembly with component quantities.
- Create/release a work order selecting assembly, quantity, location, and the intended revision. The work order snapshots its BOM.
- Issue eligible component stock using the selected inventory detail. Review the posted operation and WIP cost.
- Post assembly completion with output quantity and tracking detail; inspect new assembly stock and operation journal.
- Use the supported unbuild only against remaining unbuilt output from the same order. Finance closes the order to post remaining WIP variance.
Check the result
Component issues move cost into WIP; completion creates assembly stock; close posts variance. Selling an assembly consumes assembly stock without issuing its components a second time.
If something goes wrong
Missing setup, invalid BOM dates, insufficient components, invalid tracked output, closed periods, or excessive unbuild quantity require correction. Use the work order’s operation history and linked journals to investigate.
